Classes

I have taught a wide range of classes including sales management, marketing management, marketing strategy, and marketing research. My particular expertise is in sales management and marketing strategy, subjects I have taught at both China Seminarundergraduate and graduate levels, although my recent work has grown my interest in teaching Doing Business in China and Marketing for Entrepreneurs. My undergraduate class sizes are typically 30 – 60 students, though I am currently teaching a core Intro to Marketing course with sections of 240 students while overseeing five Teaching Assistants. In 2002, I received the MKT Professor of the Year Award, an award given annually to the professor chosen by the marketing student’s association. In 2005, I received the Dean’s Academic Staff Teaching Excellence Award. In fall 2006, I received Favorite Instructor Award.

As part of my ongoing teaching duties, I have handled the professional evening MBA class in Marketing Management for each of the past four years. In this course I combine lecture with case method while also challenging students to reflect on their own business experiences and to draw from these to enrich the learning experience. Similarly, I was the evening professional MBA instructor for Marketing Management and Strategy at each of my prior institutions, Babson College and University of Auckland. My role in this area recently extended to being the faculty coordinator and host of the inaugural international component to the program – I designed and planned the Summer 2006 trip to China, including arranging in-country activities including teaching, company and embassy visits, as well as deciding on cultural activities/sightseeing.
